Some of my favorite bloggers have recently listed their shuffle play-by-plays. I haven’t been able to do much more than listen to music the last couple of days, so I logged today’s selections. My MP3 player is cooking like gas on the front burner:

I've got 8 solid days of listening on my iPod right now and the best thig to do is hit "shuffle all" and drive like I own the radio station. I dig it.
I was thinking of the Sonic Youth cover the other day!
It will ruin my image but I love that song...even the original.
So can you shuffle all iPods? I know that sounds ignorant, but I have a 40GB iPod that is full and I don't know if it shuffle. I guess it does, I've just always made lots of playlists. However, I recently had my laptop to die (bought a new one since) and thank goodness I had my library on an external hard drive. I was able to recover all my songs but I lost all my playlists, and stupidly hooked up my iPod before I had gotten them off the iPod to re-create them again. If I get a chance to use it at work tomorrow, I'll check it out or ask a couple of the guys at work to see if they can help me. I think it's funny when the radio stations play people's play lists sometimes on the weekends. It's funny.
JEREMY: I live on shuffle. There's that moment just before the next song begins ... that moment of anticipation ... wondering what will play next ... whether or not it will flow or suck ... ah, I love living on the edge.
SKINCARVER: It must be a glasses-and-big-collars thing; I love both versions, too. I'll check with PinkFluffySlippers, hot stuff.
DJ ANDI: At this moment, I have a Creative Zen, so I can't help you there. But I hope to own the 80GB iPod as soon as that freelance check slips into my mailbox.
That Sonic Youth cover of Superstar is the BEST!! EVER!!
I can't wait to see what pops up for the Random Ten tomorrow.

i love shuffling my music. i especially love putting songs that aren't in constant heavy rotation on my shuffle list - it's like rediscovering old favorites.

How good is Sonic Youth's Superstar? I tend to listen to that track at least 5 times in a row.

BUBS: That Carpenters tribute album rocks; I love every damn cover on the CD, but the Sonic Youth track is the best. And thanks for the BTW.
BRAT: I shuffle every MP3 - about 13,000 on my player. I love the possibilities!
BEN: I love MP3s because I can carry thousands of songs in my pocket. I've considered picking up that Bose speaker set when I get my iPod so that I can crank the room. And thanks; a music compliment from you is the highest praise.
ZIGGY: I know, sir, and I'm ashamed. But it's the player's fault! I kept waiting for "Queen Bitch" or "Young Americans" or even "I'm Afraid of Americans," but the random didn't land there. *sigh*

You will love it if you get the 80GB iPod. I must warn you though, I have over 7,000 songs on mine and without playlists it is mind boggling to figure out what you want to hear. I especially have trouble when I'm in a rush to workout and need something fast. I need to spend more time on the playlists.
The last couple of DJ gig I did I was able to use my iPod for some or all of it. That was awesome. It just takes pre-planning. However, the dinner music was easy to put together.
Loved the list. I have to check out the Sonic Youth song. I don't think I have heard it but I love, love, love the Carpenters. Big nostril music and all!
Um, where's all the love for the super-cheesy Serge Gainsbourg? Let's hear it for freaky French guys!
I'm with Ben on the lack of an ipod. Don't have one and don't think I ever will. I have this incredible fear that if I ever stick with something that I will be forever shut out of hearing new things.
I'll stay with my XM and that way I never know what's coming out.
But I do like your list.
Superstar came up on my shuffle this morning and so did Close to You by the Cranberries. Doesn't seem too random. I've been logging my shuffle all morning, its addictive to see where you've been. No idea what I'm going to do with all of this information now....

Beth, it's good to shuffle. Because if you stand still, or sit still as it were, you'd be tagged...
like now. You should've ducked.
DJ andi: If you want to shuffle the songs in the playlists, go to Settings/ Shuffle/Songs.
Or if you want to leavev the playlists as is and just shuffle the library in its entireity, click Shuffle on the main menu. Of course mine is a couple years old, so it may have changed a bit. But I'd imagine it's similar.
Make that 4 for the no ipod mp3 peeps.
Haven't seen a use for it because I don't download.
Excellent list, Beth. Have you heard Beck's new one The Information yet? It is AWE-INSPIRING.
If you're willing to venture into iPod land, for an additional £6 (or whatever it is US) you can grab some monster cables and plug the thing into your stereo. Mine is currently thumping my neighbours with the aforementioned work of art.

KEITH: My commute's too short to justify XM. And I have to admit that I'm an MP3 addict; I love the fact that I can carry thousands and thousands of songs with me everywhere I go. And I find that I discover more new music via the (legit, of course) download sites.

Now I remember this meme from your mention of "Johnny Got His Gun." It stuck on me at the time, because I never thought of Trumbo as a novelist, but a screenwriter famous for being blacklisted.
Plus, I saw the movie version of this as a kid on TV and it disturbed the hell out of me. It was Timothy Bottoms best role this side of Dubya in "That's My Bush."
My iPod now spends more time in it's Bose Soundock than with me tuning the world out and it sounds great.
Beth, your list is great although I'm ducking from everybody's swing by saying I've never heard Superstar by Sonic Youth. I'll go find it and see if it changes my life:-)
I'm curious about the new Beck album, I just read about it.
In April I attended a special concert by Nina Simone's daughter, who performed an exact replica of her mother's 1959 concert at Town Hall in NYC. It was the coolest thing ever.
I haven't heard that Elvis Costello, and I just love him. I'm going to download that one right now. I would love to check out: Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians: Freeze, Rilo Kiley: Portions for Foxes, The Minus 5: Coffee, Cigs, Booze, and Oh Ok: Such n Such all sound really intriguing! Beth, don't tell me you're like Grant Miller who's killed many a musician in his time or like my friend who snaps photos of celebrities only to have them die shortly after?! You need at least 2 or 3 deaths to form a pattern though so unless there's something you're not saying, I think you're good.
I downloaded the Sonic Youth track and it's great! I'd heard a few of the songs from the cd and loved this one so now I can put on my Sonic Senior club jacket and pretend to be cool!
Well, I kissed Warren Zevon, and he died. I've always worried that his (lovely yet tiny) mortal body simply couldn't handle the pure, sweet, ethereal love that is the Cup kiss.
And glad to see you're finally sportin' the cool kids' jacket. That Carpenters tribute CD rocks. (Did you ever think you'd read "Carpenters" and "rocks" in the same sentence?)

Absolutely! I have a hard time believing that Comedy Central found the show too expensive to produce, unless there was a campaign where pressure was covertly applied to the advertisers. At least they can't get to John Stewart.
