Saturday Morning Blues and Grays

Early morning drive through town. The sky was gray, mottled, sad, as was the mood. The opening strums of “Wonderwall” seep through the car, driving my mind away to a possibility that should have been a reality. A twinge of regret, a bit of dreaminess. There are many things that I would like to say, but I don’t know how.

Beautiful melancholy set to music. I love the Ryan Adams and Cat Power covers, but the Oasis original is my favorite (although I’ve heard that Noel prefers Ryan’s version); it's one of those that I play over and over and over, about ten times straight.

Interesting that I’m a Buck/Stipe girl, and my recent introspective car moments have been spent with Oasis. Maybe it’s time for me to move to Connecticut after all …

This song is proof in and of itself that Oasis was destined for greatness.

Sad that they're never on the radio these days.

[By the by, I secretly enjoy the Ryan Adams version as much as I do this one]

I really liked that song until this neighbor put it on "repeat" on her stereo and blasted it very loudly at 3:00 am. I ran down to her apartment in my boxers to ask her to turn it down. I had to pound on her door repeatedly for her to hear me. Then when she opened it, very drunk, she was standing there with her boyfriend, and both of them were also barely clothed. They invited me in. I declined, and went back to bed very confused. Still feel that way when I hear anything by Oasis.

THIRDWORSTPOET: You should move to Atlanta. We hear them all the time on two of our stations.

OLD LADY: Isn't that the truth!

BEN: I go back and forth between this and "Champagne Supernova." But I'm glad to see us staying on the same music page.

CP MAN: Youre stories are always better. Now I'm going to wonder what would have happened had you gone in ...

That's because Oasis is one of the best bands in the world. My love of Social Distortion won't allow me to say they're the best band in the world, but they're certainly right up there. And if you need a new favorite Oasis song, might I suggest "The Impprtance of Being Idle" off of Don't Believe the Truth. I absolutely love it. By far my favorite off the new album. Here's the Amazon sample.

Beth, make that the topic of the first short story you get published! ;)

JEREMY: I need to get that album. I just have "Lila." And my R.E.M. love is holding me back a bit on the Oasis exultations ... but, damn, they're brilliant.

COASTER PUNCHMAN: Your timing is perfect. My unofficual writing professor suggested that I write a collection of short stories based around my favorite songs since that's when my writing comes to life ... so your tale (or how I imagine it if you'd come in) will be in the table of contents. Cue up the porn wah-wah pedal.

If it's porn wah wah you're looking, might I suggest PornoSonic. You have to be in the mood to hear it, but is truly is ultra 70's porn music.
