A Reason to Watch
From The Washington Post:
Letterman to Appear on 'Oprah'
David Letterman will make his first appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" next month, another sign the talk-show titans have buried the hatchet after a rift that lasted more than a decade.
Letterman will tape the interview, a rare appearance on someone else's show, on Sept. 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York, Winfrey's production company announced Wednesday.
Their reconciliation began in 2005 when Winfrey appeared on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman." It was Winfrey's first guest appearance with Letterman, though she twice appeared on his NBC show before the comic jumped networks in 1993.
Letterman frequently joked about Winfrey, and she rejected repeated offers to appear on his program. In 2003, Winfrey told Time magazine she wouldn't appear with Letterman because she had been "completely uncomfortable" as the target of his jokes.
When Winfrey appeared on Letterman's show two years ago, she told him, "I want you to know, it's really over, whatever you thought was happening." Letterman responded: "Are you sure it's over?"
The nationally syndicated show will appear live in some markets and will be rebroadcast in others, said a spokeswoman for Winfrey's Chicago-based Harpo Productions Inc. studios.

Labels: hero, I finally have a reason to watch Oprah's show, I heart Dave, Letterman
21 Comments:
Please. He's totally adding some cream to her coffee.
Dave can add cream to my Coffey any time he wants.
Late Night with David Letterman was an absolute institution in my childhood/young adult life. Honestly, the move to CBS has completely sucked in my book. Of course, I don't even watch anymore since the world has been blessed with the sacred gift that is The Colbert Report.
And, there is NO EXCUSE for watching Oprah EVER! (Just my humble opinion.)
I hope he takes Uma along with him.
I have a feeling he is going to really give her the business. He does not talk about his private life which is why he never has Merrill Marcoe (sp?) on his how anymore.
As much as I try to avoid Oprah, I am interested to see how this goes.
You people had better be careful. You know she's Jesus right?
I wish I'd said that Beckeye!
HAAHNSTER: I still enjoyed Dave when he went to CBS. I haven't watched much in the last couple of years, though. I feel guilty abandoning him, but I just can't sit still long enough.
BECKEYE: I thought that joke was SO funny when he said it as the Oscars. But I'm Dave-programmed for humor.
MICHAEL K: He had Merrill on once post-breakup. She was the brilliance to his early late-night years.
CHRIS: I'm not a fan of Oprah, but I'll watch this episode.
DALE: Just because you think you're Jesus doesn't mean you're Jesus. Justin Theroux's Jesus.
Dave rules. I've been a fan since he used to hostthe Tonight Show in the mid to late 70's. I'll try to catch that Oprah.
Never been much of a late-night talk show fan, but I do remember Dave sending me into hysterics with his Hosey-Cow bit many years ago. I saw those damn cows on lawns in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of MD and wanted one just so I could be the dork with a Hosey cow in our neighborhood. I'm sure the homeowner's association would have loved it.
I appreciate all of Oprah's humanitarian efforts, but her energy over the past 3-4 years really irritates me. She's one of my people (Aquarius) and this is how we roll sometimes: very charitable but can be dogmatic assholes.
His top 10 lists are still excellent after all these years.
Beth, I have had the hots for Letterman for years, since the morning show. He's adorable. I can't wait to see him on Oprah!
I'm so confused about all these talk show hosts appearing on other talk show host's shows. That is way too post-modern for me. I'm just an old fashioned girl, I guess.
It is interesting that they waited until Stedman was out of the way.
DR. MONKEY: I've been following Dave forever, too. I'll take a day of vacation to catch that show.
MOXIE: I love the late-night boys; I just never get around to watching them. Thank God "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" run again at 8 p.m. the next day. Oprah spends too much time letting us know how fabulous she is; turns me off.
SKYLERS DAD: Aren't they? And #3 is usually the funniest one.
JACY: I loved the morning show. I wish they'd release it on DVD.
BARBARA: I love the PoMo of it, and I can't wait to see what Dave does with this opportunity.
CHANCELUCKY: Is Stedman definitely a goner? Didn't know that!
I thought Stedman was no longer the surrogate Mr. Winfrey. Oddly, I've had these glancing six degrees of separation things with Stedman Graham. One of my work associates (my boss actually) had to meet with him in Chicago once to discuss a school proposal. She said that he was amazingly "beautiful" physically. Interesting adjective.
Also, he has some tie to the college that my daughter's going to attend.
My guess is Gayle would have been more in the way than Stedman, but what do I know?
My favorite Top Ten item ever was from a list of new car models for the upcoming year:
The Yugo Screwyourself
I have a celebrity crush on Dave.
So, yeah, I'll do what I can to catch this episode.
that will be a good one to watch. I'm so glad you posted. Katie, would it kill you to read the papers a bit more often? indeed it would. I huffpo it twice a week these days. nightly news makes me want to spit twice and die. it's a temporary hiatus. look at all the justifying, missy.
I believe the best Oprah parodies appear on MAD TV. Awesome.
CHANCELUCKY: I think Stedman's beautiful. If he's available, I wonder if he'd like to see Stevie Wonder with me on Friday ...
DEADSPOT: I have an even better Top Ten fave; that will make a great blog post.
THIRD WORST POET: So do I!
JEWGIRL: I don't read papers; I read the news blurbs on my Yahoo e-mail home page.
COASTER PUNCHMAN: That MAD TV chick does the BEST Oprah, doesn't she?
