Excitement Builds

And the countdown begins. In 36 hours, I'll be reunited with these guys:

For just the third or fourth time since he retired in 1997, Bill Berry — that's him on the drums, in front of the 40 Watt bulb — is leaving the farm tomorrow night to play with Mike Mills, Michael Stipe, and Peter Buck (oh, and Scott McCaughey, who's playing guitar on the far right). Why? Because R.E.M. is being inducted in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, along with Gregg Allman, Jermaine Dupri, and Dallas Austin. And I'm giddily clutching my tickets for the big event.

How the heck the Indigo Girls were inducted years before R.E.M. still mystifies me ...
My beloveds will be playing three songs (and I sit up late at night wondering which ones — surely "Radio Free Europe" ... maybe "It's the End of the World as We Know It" ... can I hope for "Turn You Inside-out"?), and it's rumored they'll also back up Gregg Allman.

This is a black-tie affair, kiddies. My three-inch-heeled and well-baubled self will be rubbing shoulders and chewing rubber chicken with the great loves of my life. And — dare I dream? — maybe have a cocktail with them.

Be thinking of me Saturday night, beginning at 6:15 p.m. EST.

Oh Beth, that is great and I know you're just going to have a wonderful time.
BTW how is Bill's health these days ?

As it seems like an intimate little affair, wouldn't it be nice if they played "Perfect Circle" from of "Murmur"

GIZMOROX: I can't wait! And it's not on a Tuesday ...

BEN: Bill's supposedly great and happy and healthy, an early-to-bed/early-to-riser these days. I would LOVE to hear "Perfect Circle"!

Beth, you know they are going to get the grand pooba and sing Georgia on My Mind at the end.

I'd be happy with Begin the Begin, Feeling Gravity's Pull, and Fireplace, but that's just me.

OLD LADY: By "grand poobah," I hope you don't mean Guvna Sonny.

FRANK: R.E.M. performed "Begin the Begin" at a surprise show Tuesday night ... so my fingers are crossed!

Hey Beth, have you ever seen that Bravo special where different celebrities interview each other? There's one where Mario Batali hangs out with Michael Stipe--truly surreal, but very interesting...

Have a great time!!

No, the big award, I don't know what it is called, but the winner sings "Georgia On My Mind", I think Sonny does give the award. He comes where I work at least once a month. To him I am just an office worker, he almost knows my name.

Have the best time, I know you will Beth. I'll definitely think of you all dolled up and hobknobbing with the greats.

KLUFF: Have I seen it? Only every time it's aired -- and when I pull out the VHS. It leaves me wisftul, wishing I were hanging out with Michael, being his best friend. Don't you love how he gets excited about U2's "Beautiful Day," how he loves it and gets pissed that he didn't write it?

OLD LADY: I didn't know they had a winner at the induction ceremony. I've heard that R.E.M. will be Gregg Allman's back-up band, which is very cool. I'll let you know via blog about the away.

DALE: I. Am. So. Excited. I've been playing Project Runway with my mother and sister-in-law and niece all night, trying the different wardrobe combos ... and I'm going to kick sartorial ass. I knew you'd want to know.
