Happy 300th.
Sgt. Pepper... is probably the ideal album for which to mark an anniversary, as it's basically a museum piece. A couple of songs are still more or less listenable, and "A Day in the Life" is as good as it gets in recorded music. But, much of the album has not aged as well as The "White Album" and Abbey Road, or even Revolver and Rubber Soul.
Just my humble O.
OOPS! I should have followed the link before I commented! I'm probably in trouble now.
When I was 9 years old (maybe it was 10) in 1979 (or 1980, depending), I received my first portable cassette player (rectangular and black, with one mono speaker--the technological predecessor of the "boom box") for Christmas, along with 2 cassette tapes. One of the two was Sgt. Pepper.... So, please don't think I was randomly sniping (I think you know me better than that anyway).
Still, though, give me "Dear Prudence" over "She's Leaving Home" any day!!!
DALE: Damn right, sir.
BARBARA: I'm ready, if someone will just show up with the cocktails and party blowers. Haahnster?
WRITE PROCRASTINATOR: I think I just fell in love with you.
HAAHNSTER: Opinions are always welcome on this page, sir. And your taste in music is held high here at the Cup. I think Revolver or Rubber Soul are probably superior ... but, as you read, Sgt. Pepper will also win out for sentimental reasons.
Am I allowed to like it just for the cover art?
Happy blog milestone, Beth!
300 posts, your blog tercentenary. That's quite a milestone. Congratulations!
Happy 300!!! Very glad I came across your blog. It's so fun to read. I still listen to my dad's Sgt Pepper album on vinyl, sounds so much better that way.
Beatles, shmeetles...
Now, 300 blog posts on the other hand--THERE'S an achievement!
Thank you for keeping me entertained!
TENACIOUS S: Yes, you are. Few are, but you've proved your musicology factor.
CHELENE: Thanks, Chelene! Glad you're a regular reader.
WANDERING AUTHOR: Thank you, sir. Now if I could only put that time into writing these short stories stuck in my head ...
ARTFUL DODGER: Sgt. Pepper should also be first appreciated on vinyl; glad you were raised properly.
BUBS: Back atcha!
Beth! Has it been 40 years? Gosh, I'm glad I can say that this WASN'T one of the albums I got when it streeted. But it was damn close. :)
And isn't that you in the front row off to the right? :)
Oh, you youngsters have no idea what you missed.
And what a sharp eye! Yes, that's me, arms akimbo in lame. I've toned down my Diana Dors-like sexiest — banding down the b@@bs, dying those blonde locks a more acceptable black — so that chicks would be friends with me.
*sigh*
It's tough being a natural sex bomb.
I can't believe it has been 20 years since they issued this (in general circulation) on CD.
I was living in NJ at the time, and it was such a big deal FINALLY being able to get Sgt Peppers on CD.
That's how old I am!
Congrats on your 300th, Beth. Hope you have lots more let in you.
MOUNTJOY: I believe I've trumped you on old, Mountjoy.
Happy 300th post Beth! Here's to the next 300! xo :O)
Touché!
I think The Beatles pyschadelic period was much better than the Rolling Stones psychadelic period.
I thought you should know.
Congrats darlin'! And you thought the internet was too complicated. See? You're better at it than I am.
I see that, not only do you collect floating pens, you've got a pretty good collection of Dan's going. My floating pen would be funky and rare to be sure.
MYUTOPIA: Welcome!
MELLOWLEE: Thanks, doll.
MOUNTJOY: Our friend bantering could bring our hemispheres together.
GRANT MILLER: I laid awake last night wondering what side of the psychedelic fence you were on. Finally — sleep!
DAN: I owe it all to you, darlin'. And remember that you're always the bestest Dan!
