I’ve been fighting the Facebook temptation for a couple of years. It’s all I can do to keep up with the blog (as you gracious readers discovered this summer), so why add to my e-stress by joining a social network? But when Grant Miller asked me to be his friend, I considered it.

This past insomniaced Friday, I was up late Googling long-lost friends. I saw that one of my favorite long-losts was on Facebook, so I decided to give the page a turn.

The three minutes to sign up was worth it for this:

Had dinner tonight with Holly, one of my very favorite people on this earth — and one of Cup of Coffey's most loyal readers. It's liberating to spend an evening with someone who knows you better than most, who gets you, who just plain loves you. I'm one lucky girl.

When you have so many smart, helpful readers? I (stupidly, frustratingly) forgot about SpyBot and Ad-Aware, and I'm thankful that you triggered my memory. I ran both, trapping all but one of those pop-up sons of bitches. A couple of updates and addition runs, and my PC should be clean and happy once again. I've also updated my AVG antivirus.

Furry Happy Monsters

The folks over at AOL Music (forget Blender or Pitchfork; they’re the bastions of cool and cutting edge on the music scene) recently put together a list of the wussiest songs. Which song ranked number one? “Shiny Happy People.” Kind of have to agree with them (although I like the remixes). R.E.M. even hates the song; they refuse to play it live or include it on greatest hits package (you gotta love their integrity). I’ve heard that Michael Stipe won’t even deposit the “SHP” residuals, but instead gives those monies to charity.

The Muppets are way cooler than AOL Music, as this video shows. There's even a Kate Pierson Muppet!
